The Data Scientist reports to the Chief Digital Information Officer. To be successful in this role, you must be able to thrive in a creative environment where collaboration and customer service excellence are key. You will play a critical role in delivering accurate, insightful analysis to drive decision-making throughout the organization. In order to succeed in this role, you must be comfortable working with partner teams, conducting both planned and ad hoc analyses, preparing reports, and communicating insights to a variety of audiences. In order to excel in this role, you must be driven, with an entrepreneurial spirit, resourceful, innovative, forward thinking and committed. You will be responsible for working with key members of the business to develop and evaluate requirements, ensure operational readiness, and verify new features bound for production meet MGA’s standards and needs. You’ll work closely with technical teams such as Database Engineering, Product Delivery, Infrastructure, Information Security and Operations to define and refine data analytics and solutions. Tasks on projects include authoring functional, technical and security requirements for review and contributing to the overall success of the project. The successful candidate must understand the scope and effect of all changes that a project may encompass by soliciting input from all constituents, and involving all appropriate teams, and understand MGA’s solution intake, solution delivery and operations models; how core business services support B2B and B2C; and how analytics and measurement enable exceptional customer service and high performing teams.

In this capacity, the Data Scientist will:

  • Develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Instantiate and utilize modern data science and advanced analytics platforms to ingest, preprocess, analyze, explore, describe, and deliver data and analytics solutions.
  • Help specify requirements for firm-wide data and insight strategies.
  • Lead new design and implementations of data integration, reporting, and analytics solutions.
  • Develop data augmentation, tool evaluation capacity, and systems integration planning.
  • Initiate and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and delivery teams.
  • Help define SDLC methodologies and contribute to best practices and data (e.g. data governance, cleansing, management, etc.).
  • Experimentation and evangelization of new and innovative technologies and solutions.
  • Foster innovation and creativity within the Digital Information Team, and among cross-functional project team members.
  • Screen various innovation sources, conduct workshops for brainstorming, use innovation tools and deriving ideas from these activities.
  • Analytical skills, to critically evaluate the information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, abstract-up from low-level information to a more general understanding, distinguish presented user requests from the underlying true needs and distinguish solution ideas from requirements.
  • Assist in establishing group goals in support of departmental goals, strategic business plans and company objectives, managing those goals from inception to completion by defined due dates.
  • Work with Project Management to enforce scope control with stakeholders, task execution with the development team and relevant upward communication to management. 
  • Assist in practical process improvement with an eye towards optimizing business and system process flows.
  • Collect data through means such as analyzing business results or by setting up and managing new POCs and studies.
  • Transfer data into a new format to make it more appropriate for analysis.
  • Create new experimental frameworks to collect data.
  • Build tools to automate data collection.
  • Search through large data sets for usable information.
  • Create reports and presentations for business uses.
  • Correlate similar data to find actionable results.


The successful candidate for Data Scientist will be an accomplished data expert with extensive experience and proven credentials.

  • 5+ years’ of data engineering and analysys experience targeting web online and / or PaaS / SaaS products.
  • Hands on familiarity with programming; ideally C++, Python, SQL, Java and R.
  • Ability to break down and understand complex business problems, define a solution and implement it using advanced quantitative methods.
  • Familiarity and experience using data warehousing solutions, such as MS Azure Datawarehouse, Google Cloud or Redshift, is imperative.
  • Experience w/AI and ML and statistical modeling.
  • Solid oral and written communication skills, especially around analytical concepts and methods.
  • Knowledge of Cloud technologies such as AWS, Azure, GC and relational databases such as SQL.
  • Experience in Salesforce SAQL, Einstein Predictive Analytics, etc. a plus.
  • Ability to work hard and thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple projects and meeting strict deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and interface with business and software developers (internal and external) on small or large enterprise projects. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group consisting of technologists, attorneys, executives, managers and subject matter experts. 
  • A natural affinity and track record for working with complex software systems.
  • Ability to listen to business requirements and easily that can easily take development actions.
  • Experience working with structured development methodologies with an emphasis on an iterative approach. Exposure to Agile and SCRUM methodologies a plus.
  • Successful track record in working with business and technology teams to define, develop, test and launch data solutions.
  • Possess time management and decision-making skills.
  • Experience in authoring or conveying technical requirements.
  • Listening skills, to understand what people say and to detect what they might be hesitant to say.
  • A great work ethic and intellectual curiosity.
  • Demonstrated ability in affecting change.


A Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree in quantitative field preferred or equivalent work experience.
